Sushi Zushi

Wasabi and I have been dating for six years! Check out these sweet flowers Wasabi had sent to me at work. I am posting late, but our anniversary is in October so the pumpkin makes sense.

So of course, our anniversary dinner date was in sushi. We went to Sushi Zushi.

Revisit to Nami on Homecoming Weekend

It was homecoming weekend where Wasabi and I went to college so we had to go to Nami again. We also brought along my brother who is hooked on sushi now, thanks to Nami!!

We had already taken my brother to Nami once before with the family. We did the hibachi table and had an appetizer Monster Roll for everyone to try. He loved it! So this time we had to order two  Monster Rolls. We also ordered the Dragon Roll and a shrimp roll. I keep forgetting to write the names of the rolls down while we are at the restaurant. I looked online and could not figure it out. We also ordered the PD Roll (which comes on fire- see earlier post). It was not on the online menu so I think they need to update the website.

Kaji Sushi Again

We are currently eating a lot of Kaji sushi. They deliver and are close by so we go there as a last minute dinner. We do the "buffet" a lot, although I like other rolls that are not on the buffet menu. Here are a few rolls on the buffet that we got this time that we do not always order. They were good, simple rolls. I would order them mixed in with the fancier sauce ones next time. With the buffet you order a few rolls at a time and can keep ordering until you are done... it is not like get up and pick what you want buffet.

Top Left- Spicy Tuna
Top Right- Eel Roll
Bottom Left- I cannot remember the name of this one

Sushi Damo

Sushi Damo

In New York, New York near Columbus Circle.

I cannot remember the name of these beautiful rolls. I looked at the menu but I do not want to name the rolls wrong. We went here on Thanksgiving. It was a fun location and neat environment, what I would expect for New York sushi. However, I think the rolls are prettier than they tasted. Don't get me wrong, they were good. They were more plain on the inside (I know they do not look that plain). Simple and traditional sushi, I suppose! Overpriced for sure! Overpriced drinks too. I ordered a drink and they did not have the flavoring so I did not end up ordering anything. Wasabi said his Whiskey Sour was alright.

I would go again if I lived in New York. However, if Wasabi and I go back to New York, we will probably try somewhere else because there are SO many sushi places.

Short Post from St. Thomas, Ontario in Canada

This is going to be a short post because I am not sure what rolls we ordered and the descriptions are not even on the menu.

We went to dinner with some of Wasabi's work people. It was an all you can eat menu and with five people, we ordered a lot of sushi.  We wanted to know the descriptions for the special rolls, and the waitress gave us her stapled together notepad with tiny handwritten descriptions. Helpful to us, but what about the other people trying to order? So that is why I cannot say too much about this place. I would recommend driving the extra distance and going to Shoguns in London. But if you do try this little place out, I recommend the simple rolls over the special rolls.

Back to Bonsai and A New Owner

We decided to go back to an old favorite because we have not been there in a while. About two weeks ago, Bonsai changed owners (which we did not know until after we got there). They moved some tables around and updated their menu. I actually really love their new menu. It has pictures of each roll with the description.

Remember this is the place where we "fell in love" with the Volcano. So we ordered the Volcano Roll.

Volcano Roll- California roll on top backed shrimp, scallop, crawfish with spicy mayo and eel sauce.

It was good but not as good as the old Volcano Roll. This one was topped with crunchy fried wonton pieces that were good. I think the description might be from the old owner. I do not think they have updated their website yet.

We also ordered a Tower. We had never had a Tower here yet. It was my favorite for the night. But not my favorite Tower.

We were really hungry so instead of Edamame or a Ginger dressing salad, we got FOUR rolls! We ordered the Flamingo and the All American. These were both alright. I probably would try something different next time.

Another Tasty Time at Sushi Zushi

I decided I wanted to go back to Sushi Zushi. Yummy sushi and a mojito just sounded great! We went during happy hour! My Peach Red Mojito, Wasabi's Japanese Yellow Jacket and our Edamame are on the Happy Hour menu. I took a picture so you could see the happy hour times and items. We asked what the Roll of the Week was and I cannot remember what our waiter said but he did say it was "just okay" so we passed on that one.

Wasabi and I always end up getting the same waiter. He even recognizes us! Haha I learned his name tonight. It is Kevin. And if you ever go to Sushi Zushi in Southlake (Tuesday- Saturday are his days) then request him. He knows his sushi and offers honest opinions.

So we wanted to order the Godzilla Roll but Kevin said it was just okay and you cannot taste the Crawfish. You only taste the avocado and sirachara sauce. If you want Crawfish, Kevin said to have the Oaklawn. We have had this one before but I wanted to order so we went with his suggestion and knew it would be good. We did order a new eel roll called the Janie. I liked it a lot and would order it again for sure. We are almost out of eel rolls to try. We also ordered the Tuna Tower. I love the spicy taste. I forgot to take a picture and the waiter that brought it out deconstructed it for us. I know I have said it before but do not judge the Tower by its deconstructed state.

Godzilla (remember we did not order this one but I am providing the description)- fried crawfish, spicy mayo, cream cheese, serrano chillies and chives rolled uramaki style wrapped with avocado. Topped with sriracha sauce.

Oaklawn- fried crawfish rolled uramaki style topped with your choice of spicy tuna or spicy salmon (we went salmon since the Tower had tuna), wrapped in avocado. Topped with four colorful caviars drizzled with wasabi cream sauce.

When Wasabi and I eat the Oaklawn, we each eat one of each colored caviar. We think they are the seasons... black- winter, red- fall, green- spring and orange- summer. Just some silly Oaklawn eating fun!

Janie- Unagi eel, shrimp tempura and cucumber rolled uramaki style, wrapped with avocado, masago caviar and sesame seeds. Topped with eel sauce.

Spicy Tuna Tower- A foundation of sushi rice layered ith Tampa Bay sauce, masago and sliced avocado topped with your choice of spicy tuna or salmon. Sprinkled with furikake and drizzled with wasabi cream sauce. The Tower is prepared table side and garnished with orange tobiko, black tobiko and wasabi tobiko and habanero masago.
